The main arteries of Japan (Tomei Expressway, National Route 1, and JR Tokaido Line) are concentrated in the Yui district in Ihara-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture. Therefore, efforts have been made for the landslide control project directly supervised by the central government, in view of the possibility that massive landslides might be caused by downpour and an earthquake in the Tokai region. This project was started in 2005.
