What kinds of works does Fuji Sabo Office do?

The works of Fuji Sabo Office are as follows.

Surveys for volcanic sabo of Mt. Fuji

Mt. Fuji has been erupting repeatedly since about 10,000 years after the formation of the New Fuji volcano (current Mt. Fuji), and volcanic activities have been occurring regularly since early history.

Mt. Fuji has remained dormant for about 300 years since the Hoei eruption in 1707, but is predicted to cause catastrophic disaster if an eruption occurs.

In 2000, the low-frequency earthquake that occurred underground in Mt. Fuji area reaffirmed the importance of measures for an active volcano, and full-scale considerations of disaster prevention measures against Mt. Fuji’s eruption began.

In June, 2004, Mt. Fuji Hazard Map Review Committee published the ‘Mt. Fuji Volcanic Disaster Prevention Map,’ and in response to this, disaster prevention measures by local governments around Mt. Fuji also resolutely began.

At Fuji Sabo Office, to prevent sediment-related disasters caused by Mt. Fuji’s volcanic activities, we examine the plan for Mt. Fuji volcanic sabo (examining sabo facilities layout policies), developing observation system for Mt. Fuji, and considering building real-time hazard map along with relevant organizations.
